Protester detained over royal egging

<p dir="ltr">A protester has been arrested after throwing eggs at King Charles III and Camilla during their royal visit in Yorkshire.</p> <p dir="ltr">The second day of the couple’s royal tour saw them take part in a welcoming ceremony to the City of York on Wednesday, where they greeted well-wishers lining the streets.</p> <p dir="ltr">But things took a turn when a protester hurled an egg at the king from among the crowd, which he appeared to turn his head to avoid before it splattered on the ground next to him.</p> <p dir="ltr">When another three eggs were thrown, security stepped in and moved the King and Queen Consort back from the crowds.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-fa0dde20-7fff-065b-f995-9c57f3b3313e"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">As police detained the protester, boos were heard among the crowd that seemed to be aimed at the egg-wielding man before chants of “God Save the King” broke out.</p> <p dir="ltr"><img src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/2022/11/charles-egg-visit-arrest.jpg" alt="" width="1280" height="720" /></p> <p dir="ltr">Meanwhile, King Charles and Camilla continued their walkabout on the other side of the street and made one young well-wisher very happy.</p> <p dir="ltr"><span id="docs-internal-guid-0e9d0b11-7fff-6a18-dcd6-ca492281bf6b"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">The couple greeted Jason, a young boy who is visually impaired, before each holding his hands and walking with him.</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">Thank you to <a href="https://twitter.com/RoyalFamily?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@RoyalFamily</a> for their special meeting with young resident Jason who is visually impaired. He was thrilled to meet the King and Queen Consort today whilst they visited York. <a href="https://t.co/Vx8nol1mrH">pic.twitter.com/Vx8nol1mrH</a></p> <p>— City of York Council (@CityofYork) <a href="https://twitter.com/CityofYork/status/1590323338756300800?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 9, 2022</a></p></blockquote> <p dir="ltr">Afterwards, the town clerk read the official declaration of welcome to the city before the couple left for York Minster, where Charles unveiled a statue of his late mother.</p> <p dir="ltr">During his speech, the monarch said he was “deeply touched” to unveil the statue commemorating Queen Elizabeth II, adding that it will “watch what will become Queen Elizabeth Square”.</p> <p dir="ltr"><span id="docs-internal-guid-11f94a3e-7fff-e94c-9cd8-c2020dbfdfce"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">The statue, the first to be unveiled since the Queen’s death in September, was commissioned five years ago to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee this year.</p> <p dir="ltr"><img src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/2022/11/charles-egg-visit.jpg" alt="" width="1280" height="720" /></p> <p dir="ltr">"Now, as we have witnessed, with great sadness, the passing of that reign, it is unveiled in her memory, as a tribute to a life of extraordinary service and devotion," King Charles said.</p> <p dir="ltr">He said the “symbolism of the statue, combining the signs of Church and of State, is perfectly suited to its place on the West Front of this glorious building”.</p> <p dir="ltr">His and Camilla’s tour of the city comes ten years after the last royal visit, when Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip entered the city to attend the Maundy Service at York Minster.</p> <p dir="ltr"><span id="docs-internal-guid-026f7316-7fff-0ade-99ef-15dc23f4faa1"></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Getty Images</em></p>

Lemon curd cheesecake eggs

<p>Perfect for wowing your guests - these lemon curd cheesecake eggs are the ideal treat for your next function!</p> <p><strong>Ingredients:</strong></p> <ul> <li>225g cream cheese, at room temperature</li> <li>400g sweetened condensed milk</li> <li>2 teaspoons finely grated lemon zest (from 2 lemons)</li> <li>60ml lemon juice</li> <li>12 hollow white chocolate Easter eggs (6 cm tall), store-bought or homemade (see Tips below)</li> <li>60g lemon curd</li> </ul> <p><strong>Directions:</strong></p> <p>1. Beat the cream cheese using an electric mixer until smooth. Beat in the condensed milk until smooth. Add the lemon zest and juice and beat again until smooth and creamy. Refrigerate for 1 hour.</p> <p>2. Gently knock the top off the Easter eggs to create a small opening, creating a cracked shell effect.</p> <p>3. Place the chilled cheesecake mixture into a piping bag, snip off a 1cm opening and pipe the cheesecake into the eggs to just below the rim. (You will have leftover cheesecake filling; this can be frozen for up to a month.) Refrigerate the eggs for 1 hour.</p> <p>4. Scoop a small well in the centre of each egg with a teaspoon, fill with 1 teaspoon of lemon curd and tap gently on a work surface to help flatten it (to look like the yolk in the centre of the egg).</p> <p><strong>Tips:</strong></p> <p><strong>Make Homemade White Chocolate Easter Eggs</strong></p> <p>Melt 250g of white compound chocolate. Paint a layer into an Easter egg chocolate mould about 6cm tall by 4cm wide. Set in the fridge, then paint a second coat of melted chocolate. Return to the fridge. Remove the eggs from the mould. Heat a small frying pan over a medium heat. Lightly touch the rims of two egg halves onto the hot surface for 3 seconds so they just start to melt, then quickly press the melted edges together. 4 Ingredients: Mandarin Friands

Enjoy a healthy burger with egg-free sweet potato and lentil patties

<p>Fantastic for a healthy burger or served on their own, these patties are the perfect light meal for entertaining!</p> <p><strong>Time to prepare:</strong> 25 minutes</p> <p><strong>Cooking time: </strong>30 minutes</p> <p><strong>Serves: </strong>4</p> <p><strong>Ingredients:</strong></p> <p>500g sweet potato, peeled, cubed </p> <div class="article-body"> <p>2 tablespoons olive oil</p> <p>½ cup brown lentils<span> </span></p> <p>1 small onion, finely chopped</p> <p>2 garlic cloves, crushed</p> <p>1 teaspoon ground cumin</p> <p>½ teaspoon ground coriander</p> <p>½ teaspoon turmeric</p> <p>60g baby spinach, roughly chopped</p> <p>⅓ cup plain flour</p> <p>Natural yoghurt and lemon wedges, to serve</p> <p><strong>Directions:</strong></p> <p>1. Preheat oven to 220°C/200°C fan-forced. Line an oven tray with baking paper. Place sweet potato on tray and drizzle with half of the oil.</p> <p>2. Bake for 15-20 minutes until tender. Mash in a bowl and set aside.</p> <p>3. Cook lentils in a pan of boiling water for 15-20 minutes until softened. Drain well. Transfer to a large bowl to cool.</p> <p>4. Meanwhile, heat oil in a large frying pan on medium. Cook onion and garlic for 4-5 minutes until softened. Add spices and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Add spinach, stirring until just wilted.</p> <p>5. Transfer to bowl with lentils and sweet potato. Mix well and season to taste. Chill until cold. Form into patties and toss in flour to coat. Place on a baking paper-lined tray.</p> <p>6. Heat oil in frying pan on medium-high. Cook patties for 2-3 minutes each side until golden. Drain on paper towel. Serve patties with yoghurt and lemon wedges.</p> <p><strong>Tips</strong></p> <p>Brown lentils are also labelled as green lentils. Egg fried rice

<p>You can eat this dish by itself or as an accompaniment to meat and vegetable dishes.</p> <p><strong>Serves:</strong> 4</p> <p><strong>Ingredients:</strong></p> <ul> <li>2 cups (400g) long-grain white rice</li> <li>2 tablespoons vegetable oil</li> <li>4 eggs, beaten</li> <li>250g (8oz) slices rindless bacon (bacon strips), trimmed and chopped</li> <li>3 carrots, diced</li> <li>8 spring onions (scallions), thinly sliced</li> <li>2 cloves garlic, crushed</li> <li>1½ cups (200g) frozen baby peas</li> <li>250g (8oz) raw prawns (uncooked shrimp), peeled and deveined</li> <li>2 cups (180g) bean sprouts, trimmed</li> <li>3 tablespoons salt-reduced soy sauce</li> <li>3 tablespoons sake or dry sherry</li> <li>3 tablespoons mirin or 1 teaspoon honey</li> <li>1 tablespoon sesame oil</li> </ul> <p><strong>Preparation:</strong></p> <ol> <li>Put the rice into a large saucepan with 3 cups (750ml) water and 1 teaspoon of the vegetable oil.</li> <li>Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the liquid has been absorbed and the rice is cooked.</li> <li>Meanwhile, heat 1 tablespoon of the vegetable oil in a wok or large non-stick frying pan over medium heat.</li> <li>Add the eggs and swirl the wok to make a thin omelette.</li> <li>Cook the eggs until set.</li> <li>Remove to a plate, cool and thinly slice.</li> <li>Add the remaining oil to the wok and cook the bacon over medium heat until cooked through.</li> <li>Add the carrots, reduce the heat and cook for 2 minutes.</li> <li>Add the spring onions, garlic and peas and cook for a further 2 minutes.</li> <li>Add the prawns to the wok, turn up the heat, and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until they start to turn pink and are cooked through, then add the bean sprouts and toss well to combine.</li> <li>Add the rice and egg to the wok, then pour in the soy sauce, sake, mirin and sesame oil and mix well to combine and coat the rice.</li> <li>Stir-fry over high heat for a further 5 minutes, or until the mixture is dry.</li> <li>Serve immediately.</li> </ol> <p><em>This article first appeared in <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a href="http://www.readersdigest.com.au/recipes/egg-fried-rice">Reader’s Digest.</a></strong></span> </em></p>
